About Advancement Data Operations

The Application Development team for Advancement Data Operations utilizes a variety of technologies to deliver tailored business applications for our users. Our custom applications are built against Oracle and ADABAS data stores, Python/Django or Natural backends, and various front-end frameworks including React, Angular, and Python/Django. We also use several third-party tools, including RabbitMQ, Splunk, MuleSoft, Elastic, Netlify, Jenkins, and Stonebranch, and experience with any or all of these is highly beneficial.

Reporting to the Director of Application Development, Advancement Data Operations, the Senior Software Developer/Analyst will collaborate with users, internal and external stakeholders, and University Development Office leadership on the design, development, and stewardship of custom applications built to support the mission of TEXAS Development.

This position will provide support for our front-end and middleware applications, focusing heavily on Python/Django, React and Angular development with an Oracle backend. In addition to maintaining existing systems and contributing to new development, this role will also assist in the creation and implementation of robust testing practices, both team-internally and across units.

  • Maintain and enhance existing applications while planning for the migration of mainframe-based legacy systems to new technologies and cloud-based vendor solutions
  • Identify, assess, and document functional requirements, workflows, and business rules required to effectively design and build web-based applications
  • Design, develop, and document solutions with maintainability and reduction of technical debt as primary considerations
  • In coordination with the team, develop plans for, coordinate, and assist with the execution of thorough testing for new releases
  • Review, improve, and create system documentation, diagrams, and flowcharts
  • Provide input for the development of departmental standards and process improvements

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Three plus years of production experience writing custom code, configuring software packages, performing complex system analysis, and/or building integrations between software packages utilizing multiple programming languages. Experience with application development middleware (APIs, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), etc.) and web services (REST, SOAP). Demonstrated ability to analyze, test, document, and debug code. Familiarity with application and data security standards. Experience working with a relational database such as MySQL or Oracle. Understanding of identity and role-based access management. Previous experience with modern DevOps practices and exposure to modern deployment environments. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with many stakeholders simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills with both non-technical and technical users. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a team-oriented environment. Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing technology. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Five plus years of production experience in systems design, analysis, and programming. Three plus years of experience with UT enterprise application frameworks, including PyPE, the Mainframe, and batch. Experience with Angular, React, Vue or equivalent. Experience with implementing or integrating with third party service providers. Good understanding of source control and versioning tools (Git, GitHub). Experience with automated testing tools, such as JUnit or Selenium. Experience working with GraphQL APIs. Previous experience or familiarity with Agile Scrum. Knowledge of PCI DSS and HIPAA compliance standards and best practices. Familiarity with fundraising and development terminology and related business processes. Degree higher than Bachelor's degree.

Salary Range

$85,000 + depending on qualifications
