Course Description:

UVM Medical Center offers a perioperative nursing course developed by The Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN).  The purpose of this course is to prepare the registered nurse for entry level practice in perioperative nursing with a focus on intraoperative care. The course consists of a complimentary 1-year AORN Membership, a didactic online web based learning modules along with a Preceptor, Mentor based clinical experience. Emphasis will be placed on performing functions directly related to circulating and Scrubbing in the operating room. A rotation through the nine services (ENT/Dental, Plastics, General, GYN, GU, DaVinci Robotics, CVT, Ortho, and Neuro) occurs during this internship.  Upon successful completion of the AORN web based course, the intern will receive a certificate of completion and 41.7 CEUs. 

Education:

Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the State of Vermont is required. The University of Vermont Medical Center is moving toward an all Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) workforce. All external candidates hired into, or current employees promoted to, a RN position will be required to obtain their BSN as outlined in the terms of their offer letter.

Experience:

Appropriate experience in specific clinical area.  Varies by unit.

Greater than one year of experience.
